Only time will tell, but after 5 years. Cutting head guarantee. A month of usage comments, 1) Quietest unit I've ever had in this class. Surprisingly quiet. 2) Shredded pieces of paper are much smaller than most competitors, which means more safety and less waste in the bin. 3) The instructions are logical, they say "no shredding plastic", not even cleaning window paper envelopes. Plastic is probably the primary cause of failure, as deep clogs in the cutting heads lead to premature failure. 4) They recommend a light vegetable oil for lubrication. I've read others who say never smear. I think oils can do more harm than good and stick the paper, interfere with a clean cut and actually clog the cutter head. So this time I'm trying to never get fat. 5) An empty cart will show how full it is and will automatically stop when full. Another cause of clogging/failure of the cutting head is operating shredders with a full bin. In the last 20 years I have had 3 other similar devices. I would never shred credit cards or CDs. Use scissors for these rare occurrences. Paper shredders are designed for "paper". Only time will tell how long this device will last. You must use common sense. Don't go beyond that. And the final design decision. 6) This device has an unusual front-to-back feed (not the typical left-to-right feed). The upside is the device's narrower but deeper profile. The potential downside is that you can't use this device if you want to sink it into a bookshelf or grate, for example. You cannot access the shredder slot.
