I have had airpods for almost a year year now and they have NEVER fallen out of my ears. But I didn't want to use them while cycling because I could easily imagine them falling out when you squeeze the helmet strap. I chose this design because it has a soft, flexible strap that goes over the shoulder at the base of the neck and the straps that hold the airpods attach to this strap. The straps are loose enough so that shoulder or neck movements do not pull the headphones out of the ear. After my first bike rides, airfields haven't failed, so do they have value? Yes, for two reasons: 1) As mentioned above, when I adjust the headband and it hits the airfields, they can fall out of my ears so they don't fall to the ground. 2) When you stopped to talk to someone, you can pull an airpod out of your ear to stop playing, and instead of holding the airpod, you can let it hang. Putting the Airpod back in your ear will resume playback. It's very convenient that you don't have to hold the airpod when it's not in your ears. Can't comment on the durability of the band as I've only had it for 3 weeks. However, if it broke, I would buy another one in a heartbeat. If the second one breaks I would look for a similar design and buy it. It only takes a few seconds to remove them from the strap.
