I bought my giant freezer in 2012 for over $1000 and I bought it used. After some research I found out that my chest freezer was manufactured in 2006 and isn't even manufactured anymore. Over the last year a lot of ice has built up on the top shelf of my freezer and everything in the door is thawing. I've lost so many products because of this. I have three teenagers and a husband to feed, so food is too expensive (and hard to find!) to keep wasting. My fridge/freezer at home just isn't big enough to store enough groceries for a week, so I have to keep the freezer running. I spent most of Saturday morning shopping for a new freezer. only to find out another "non-essential" business was damaged by COVID on September 19 and no one has freezers until "maybe November" or even next year. Pooh. Looks like it's time to fix that poor freezer. After carefully reading the reviews, I decided to take a chance and order this seal. When I received the pad it was in a huge box, very well packed. I noticed that one corner of the gasket wasn't completely sealed (meaning a tear about 1/4 inch long), but I decided it must be better than what's in my freezer and put the gasket on alive. It sat on the floor for two days to warm up a bit and I was too lazy to put it in the freezer right away. Air on the pad all around eliminating the last few wrinkles One of my sons helped me change the pad as I really need an extra pair of hands to juggle everything. Freezer, scraped off all the ice (the top shelf was 4 inches deep in the ice) and put on a new gasket. It slipped on very easily and honestly fit better than the one I took off. I have two childproof latches on my freezer door as the door would not close (the old seal was so bad). After installing the new gasket and snapping the child safety locks in place, I only noticed one area that was crumpled/nicked. After that, my son got a hair dryer (after reading the reviews) and it helped smooth out the area very quickly. I left the freezer alone for about 3 hours. When I released the child safety locks, the door wouldn't open (hooray!) and it took me some effort to open it (awesome!). When I opened the freezer it was way colder than I had ever felt. When I closed the door you could actually hear the air hissing as it closed (like the first purchase) and I don't really NEED to lock the baby latches anymore. A simple solution worth the savings and my freezer is working better than it has in years!
