I was planning to use this disk to backup my MBP. I went through 2 of these last year. They lasted 3 and 8 months, respectively, but stopped suddenly. No pre-release noise or performance issues, they just die. I chose this model based on price and performance. The last one died just like my first one. I was able to find a workaround using Terminal to get Disk Utility to accept and erase it. First aid won't fix it and it doesn't show up in my search engine despite restarting and reconnecting. External hard drives enabled in Finder preferences, other external hard drives work fine. Now it's practically a brick. I kept it in an enclosure thinking it might be a fragile hard drive. I am convinced that these hard drives have bad design or bad parts. Too bad, but they work great when they're functional.
