As others have said the only surprise is that the slowest speed is the top position and then if you move the slider towards off the speeds increase to a maximum in lower switch-off position. Easy to install, offers 4 different speeds compared to the 3 speeds provided by chain hoist (speeds are slightly different from chain hoist). We use the 2 slowest speeds, to turn the fan on, just move the slider to the desired position and the fan will run at that speed without you having to switch from the highest speed to the slowest at the same time! It's better to get a ladder or stepladder to grab the chain to change speed.
