After unpacking, it's ready to be washed and used. No complicated instructions. On first use it boiled in about 4 minutes and the surface underneath was still cold to the touch. Very glad it doesn't heat up from the bottom like some other kettles I've used. Very easy to use and the perfect amount of water for a cup or tea, coffee or warm water for a meal on a hike. Silicone heats up, but not enough to burn your hands if accidentally touched. Retires to an appropriate space.
