Review on RF IDEAS RDR 6081AKU Access Control by Brent Shaeffer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great, simple and reliable until you use it with one of these "i " products

Works great. By downloading the PC driver, you can configure the reader for almost any existing HID card format. Once this is done, the reader will behave like a regular keyboard when plugged into the PC's USB port. I've used it on several Windows computers and it's worked great on all of them. It's instantly recognized as a keyboard when you plug it in, and as long as you've got a program open that accepts keyboard input (say, a notepad or a word), when you hold your card or key fob up to the reader, it will send a Text string to the PC consisting of object code and card number. Excellent! With a small USB adapter, I can even connect it to my smartphone and use it to read HID badges without a PC. The only problem I had was when a friend tried to use it on his Apple computer. Despite being recognized as a keyboard, Apple isn't satisfied and wants to say exactly what a keyboard is. I suspect it's not happy with "generic" keyboard identification, so it forces you to type a specific key sequence on the keyboard, which of course isn't possible, so it never works. Go ahead Apple.
