I tried to drill a 5/16" hole in a 5/16" porcelain wall tile but couldn't get through the tile. I drilled at 500 rpm for 5-10 seconds as usual, then lowered the drill into the water and kept it wet while drilling as well. Don't push hard and try to cut the bit. After breaking the tile halfway, I looked at the drill bit and saw that there was no more sand on its underside and it wasn't cutting anymore. the same technique, and he went through another tile from the same batch in less than a minute. I had to finish the job with an old tile drill bit that looked like an arrow (see picture below). These drill bits can work on ceramic tile but are not suitable for porcelain. I have worked with tile for many years and was surprised at how quickly the drill bit broke.
