Review on Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC LR UAP-AC-LR 2-Pack: Long Range Dual-Band Wireless Access Point, Gigabit PoE, 867 Mbps Speeds by Wiktor Wnkowicz ᠌

The perfect product for any user!

Before that, I used the Asus RT-AC-56U router, but there were problems with 5GHz network coverage - on the second floor of the house, the WiFi signal disappeared completely, I had to look for it. When I got tired, I completely replaced the network infrastructure with Ubiquiti (since the provider's network is also with Ubiquiti): USG router + switch with PoE + UniFi AC LR + CloudKey. Because of CloudKey, the kit turned out to be not budget, but it provides a number of advantages. The access point comes with a PoE injector. The point is easily configured - via CloudKey (acts as a server and controller of all UniFi equipment) or software (available under Mac / Win / Linux). Now I have one main wireless network (one network name) in both bands - 2.4 and 5 GHz. Also organized a guest open network with access based on codes (vouchers) with its own IP addressing and without access to the main network (Internet only). You can't connect to it without a code. Seamless roaming is also announced, but there is only one access point. The coverage is excellent - reliable reception within a radius of 30-40 meters (switches devices at 2.4 GHz with a bad signal at 5 GHz). The setup is not the easiest, but if the hands and head are in place, there will be no problems.

Pros
  • 1) Design 2) Powered by PoE from the router 3) Ease of setup 4) Huge coverage area
Cons
  • 1) A controller is required to manage and maintain the guest network (PC / CloudKey / Proprietary DVR with controller software installed) 2) Solution price

There are no antennas sticking out, just a round access point
