Review on πŸ”΅ Google and TP-LINK's Blue Color OnHub Wireless Router by Kevin Williams

Revainrating 5 out of 5

updated 3/2019 after two years of use.

03/25/2019 - update after two years of use absolutely no questions. not when the power goes out, never nothing. Even after adding additional cameras, smart TVs, etc. to our smart home, everything always works as expected. It never lags, no buffering on any devices. You don't have to worry about updates as they are made regularly even if you don't know about them. The application is very useful, never freezes, always works. The one time I called customer service the experience was great. This call was not made until the day of installation. Otherwise, the most important thing I can say to make my experience clearer is that the only thing I think about when I'm dusting a bookshelf is my router. essentially out of sight and out of mind. I plan to add more to the system. Google's latest mesh system works with this device and I intend to stick with it for a long time. enough that I would recommend it to any family or friends. Being an expert in all things technical I have never pushed them to buy routers as I am the one who receives the calls for help until I can get my hands on one. I found onhub really easy. set it up, go away and just use it. Remember you MUST have a tablet or smartphone to install this. This is because the Google app is used for installation and configuration. That's why it's so easy to use, unlike everyone else that uses the standard and is too complicated for most. In other words, if you can use your smartphone or tablet, there is no problem setting it up. From unboxing to using, it took me a full seven minutes to get started. Everything indicates that I have never come across a router that is as reliable or easy to use. If you are interested in more details, there are many reviews from professional sources on the web like cnet, gizmodo, etc. Ironically, the only area criticized by some was that it was oversimplified. You might like to dig into settings often to make changes, but for me at this point in my life, thanks but no thanks. Some may still say that you can buy additional skins for this, but this is wrong. The new ones are no longer in production as they were limited editions. Now that they're half the price of what they used to be, I think that's a fantastic deal. I should also mention that Google regularly sends out automatic "lifetime" software updates, something else you don't need to worry about. I would highly recommend this router to anyone other than power users who need more customization options.

Pros
  • A separate guest network makes it easy to find friends online and share devices like Chromecast with them.
