I gave this cat food 5 stars - my cat loved the Saltwater Fish Formula. Then I noticed that this cat food had carrageena added. I don't know when the company started adding carrageenan, but I really don't think carrageenan was in this cat food when I first started buying it. I could be wrong but I will not buy this cat food again. "Carrageenan is a common dietary supplement derived from red algae. For the past four decades, scientists have warned that carrageenan is unsafe to use in food. Animal studies have repeatedly shown that food-grade carrageenan causes inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract and higher rates of intestinal lesions, ulcerations, and even malignant tumors. In the late 1960s, studies linked the type of carrageenan used in food to gastrointestinal diseases in laboratory animals, including ulcerative colitis, intestinal lesions, and colon cancer.
