Giftable, hypnotic artistic gewgaw

This is one of those items I used to see over at my uncle's house years ago. He'd always have some kind of cool contraption or piece of art or game, from the marble maze to the electric dome thing to this shifting art display. I'm so glad I found one, it's very nostalgic for me.The art comes in a thick disc which mounts somewhat loosely into a separate base. It's nothing terribly fancy, as you would hopefully expect at its price. The way the sand moves when you rotate the disc is surprisingly hypnotic. you can do a full 180 turn and get lots of movement, or rotate it 30 degrees for a much more subtle shifting. At rest it's nice to look at as well. You can hover over it and rotate it a few degrees at a time in a very hands-on way as well. The box has a weird series of images with a syringe pointing at the item with an X next to it, or with a check mark next to it, and it's not at all obvious what it's supposed to mean. Are you supposed to be able to add water to it, under certain circumstances? Maybe the water in it evaporates over time? It's a mystery.Others have mentioned it can be a little wobbly, so don't put it in a heavy "arm traffic" area where you or your fellow art enthusiasts are likely to knock it over. It's also worth noting that there are other varieties of this kind of product that are rectangles and have a different mounting mechanism, also worth checking out.
