Life change seems dramatic but it's true

This carpet changed the rules of the game. I have an older Ragdoll cat that has been going to the toilet on my couch for AT LEAST 10 years. I've essentially given up. Vet exams, supplements, Feliway, catnip, multiple litter boxes, another cat, change of diet, change of fillers, actual couch change, behavioral therapy, foil on the couch, even a spiky rug on your head? NOTHING. #2 made directly onto the spikes. He always did this when he was mad at me for being a few minutes late going out or being fed, but as he got older it became more and more random until eventually my fiancรฉ had it too and we just popped the boxes on the Couch left so he couldn't physically get inside. I think not to use the family room as it was very troublesome to move everything and rest. Then we got married, moved into a new house and I ordered this shock carpet from the Blessed Mother. It's been almost a year and not a single accident. Not alone. I'm still in shock (heh). He's an adult cat so I was concerned it might hurt him, but you can adjust the intensity levels and a few people have touched him and said it's not that bad. But one day he jumped on it and never did it again. It's easy to use and easy to turn off and store away for quick removal. I've been using it day and night for almost a year now and haven't had to change the batteries yet. And I still let him snuggle with me on the couch when I want to relax and stretch out โ€” I just pull the covers off and pull out my blanket and he knows he can jump on me afterwards. But as soon as I get up, he lies down and now he just KNOWS that with the mat covered, the couch is off limits. During the day I sometimes saw him putting his little paws on the couch and looking around as if there was a rug. He somehow reluctantly reverts to his vagrancy when he sees this being the case. It also helped my cat say "yes" when we told him "no," as Mr. Galaxy says. So since we said "no" to the sofa, we put him a "yes" or a cat bed right next to the sofa. We've also provided him with a small den with a bed and a litter box so he has a safe place when needed that we keep for him at night (that's the hallway we hardly use) when he can't be supervised. . I thought he hated the "go to bed" routine but to be honest he even goes there to sleep during the day and seems to love his "cat room". Sorry for the long review but I know what it's like to deal with a problem like this and how desperate it can make you seek help. Hope this will be helpful for some!
