UPDATE: I've noticed that this rug sags a bit when I put on a fresh (still hot) square of fabric. I was concerned at first, but after the mat cooled, it returned to its original "flatness". I still love this rug. I borrowed a 12 inch Olfa swivel from my mother. I liked it but needed something bigger as my quilt blocks were 12 3/4 square. Don't make it so big (17" mat was too big for me). I came across this mat through reviewing another product. The price was right so I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did did it, it's durable, well made and feels made of high quality materials. It's one piece, so not separate like Olfa. A rubber-like foam is attached to the underside, which prevents the mat from slipping. The top of the mat moves slightly, but intentionally so it doesn't rotate as you cut. I could not find any way to improve this product.
