I bought this voice recorder to record calls from collection agencies. My insurance company takes a long time to pay my medical bills and sometimes requests additional information from my doctor and this process can delay payment, sometimes by months. But the medical insurance company does not wait months for the payment and quickly hands over the bills to their debt collection service. Every time these collectors call they let me know I'm on a record. Of course I can hang up, but then I can't explain to them what the reason for the delay is. So I decided that I should start recording them too. FIRST. I ALWAYS ASK PERMISSION from the person I'm recording. Note that wiretapping laws vary from state to state. Some states are "one-way" consent states, where only one person needs to consent to the recording of the call (obviously that would be the caller. The person controlling the recording device). But most states are "two-way" consent states, here BOTH parties must consent to a record, so bill collectors will always ask for permission to record. So I always ask permission first and they always agree because they need my permission so they can record too. If they don't agree, it's either me or just hang up. But they want to talk to me and I want to talk to them. I want you to be informed. I also want them to know that they may be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) by maintaining false records of medical expenses that have not yet been paid but are covered by my health insurance and are in the process of being paid. . . (Remember, it is very important to send this information in writing to the collector within 30 days of receiving your initial pickup notification.) A record is best, but written notification is required for legal protection. I have found that when I book bill collectors they are all reasonable, patient and respectful. Of course, no bill collector wants to appear harassing, which is another FDCPA violation, or spread false information. I keep all my recordings on Sony recorders. Sometimes I transfer them to my computer in audio files and save them there. If I have trouble entering negative information on my credit report, I can send the record to a collection agency or an appropriate credit reporting agency (Equifax, Trans Union, or Experian), or if I'm being sued (or want to sue, a bill collector). under the FDCPA), I have records. I am using this Sony recorder with an earbud for an Olympus phone recorder (TP-8). I just plug it in and turn on the Sony recorder. Crystal-clear recordings, plenty of storage space and, above all, everything is honest.
