This scale would have been much more convenient for our purposes if it had had a serial port, but it worked well in an experiment where we needed to control the change in weight due to a decrease in humidity in a hanging earth column. We can keep it running indefinitely (despite the timed auto-off feature) by cutting a hole in the battery cover and providing continuous AC power with the included charger. Since it doesn't have a serial port (nothing in this class), we get automatic readouts using surveillance cameras and OCR.
