Sturdy little device!

During the summer, my family consumes a lot of fruit, especially watermelon and melon. We usually eat 1 watermelon and 2 melons a week. I spent 30-45 minutes cutting everything, gathering it up, and cleaning up the counter (and floor) clutter. I saw this gadget on FB and decided to try it. I wasn't disappointed! The item itself makes a fairly stable / well-made impression. In the hand it weighs about as much as a normal kitchen knife. It is easy to hold and glides easily over the fruit. I was skeptical about the pictures on the internet, they seemed pretty flimsy. but it held its shape easily, the metal sides cut through the bowler with ease, and the "round wire" on the front was larger than I expected. I was expecting a real piece of wire, but it looked more like a small stick. All in all, I was able to cut my watermelon in about 5 minutes, and that includes cleaning! Now I'll say it takes a little getting used to, but the learning curve isn't that bad. The first line I cut wasn't, shall we say, quite straight! But after a few tries no problem. Also, I personally diced the first half of the melon as shown in the video, but I struggled with this and it seems like a big mess. When I tried to pull the cube out of the melon with tongs, the cube crumbled and got "stuck" in the melon. You might have better luck with this part. For the second half of the melon, I only cut in one direction and pulled everything out with no problem. I then simply cut to fit my containers. All in all I think it's worth $10 and seems like it's going to last quite a while.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
