My mother had a Hoover carpet cleaner for many years and used it regularly. With three kids and two pets, we decided it was time to get one. I was shocked what it pulled out of our carpets! Our carpets are four years old and have never been cleaned apart from accident spot cleaning. We have short pile carpets, we vacuum, maybe excessively, and are always quick to clean up spills and accidents, so I didn't expect our carpets to be this dirty. The first tank of dirty water we drained was almost black. The cleaner also collected a large amount of dog hair, which was very surprising considering how much we vacuum and the fact that our dog is a golden Astrakhan and does not shed (we thought). I walked across the carpet several times and kept pulling dirty water. I think that's the only frustrating part - I wanted the carpets to be clean but the water will never be clear so you just have to decide when they're clean enough. The water turned less brown every time I poured it out. The machine itself is easy to use and looks very high quality. The tanks can be very easily removed, emptied or filled and reinstalled. The vacuum cleaner is easy to use: one button to lower the handle, one to turn it on and a trigger on the handle to spray water. I like that the roll cover can be easily removed and washed. This coating gets dirty and other carpet cleaners I have used do not provide easy access to clean this area. You also have easy access to the inlet hose if it is clogged. A drain mat is a great accessory as the machine drains water much later than you think it should be dry, protecting your floors. There are two roles and they seem difficult. There is a carrying handle, a cable tie and a nice long hose with a small nozzle for stairs or furniture. This nozzle has rubber cleaning bristles, a spray and also easily disassembles for cleaning - hooray! There's no place to attach that extra hose and head for storage, but you can wrap it up and hang it on the handle so it's no big deal. This is a great carpet cleaner and I would recommend it to anyone who has carpets but especially those with children and/or pets.
