Problem with big pumps

Great little pump. I like his easygoing manner. He pumps water. Calm. There is no such thing as a stupid flow controller. No dozens of little connectors and adapters to store and keep track of. This is a simple and efficient pump. It's quite big so measure before you buy. I thought I was being thorough when I measured this pump and my tank's sump to make sure the pump would fit. It would be. Hardly! But what I didn't take into account is that since the pump is big, the intake grille is big too. And big. This means you need extra water depth to keep the water intake fully submerged. The 320 GPH requires a minimum water depth of 2.75 inches for the pump to not spit air. If your pan is tight like mine and has less than an inch of space in front of the inlet, this powerful little pump will suck air to a depth of 3 inches. In my 30 gallon tank, 3 inches is still half full. I was smart, but I didn't foresee this problem! If this pump fits and the 2.75" sump water level is empty in your application, go for it! It's a powerful and quiet pump.
