The foam doesn't seem particularly strong but I was surprised that it has held up well after a few months of use. I'm not a flexible person and deal with chronic neuromuscular issues, so I really only use the lowest setting, but it helps keep my perpetually tight chest/abs more open/extended. It was uncomfortable at first but I've gradually increased the amount of time I can lie on it and may even try to add a layer at some point. My only complaint is that they are bulky and I have nowhere to store them, but that is the nature of the product. It would be nice if there was an option to just buy a few of these, for those of us who know we'll never have the flexibility to use them all. :)
