Women's size 5 fits my seven-year-old daughter who wears size 2.5 children's shoes. She has longer toes and they fill out the toes of this shoe perfectly and fit snugly without leaving any extra fabric on her toes. If I were to follow the general rule for street shoes (buy women's shoes 2 sizes larger than their children's shoes, so for them it would be a women's size 4.5), then this particular shoe would be too small and too tight on the toe. So this shoe is at least half a size too small as her shoe size in this shoe is 2.5 sizes too big for her baby shoes. However, this may be due to a rigid desire for the character of the style. I could probably order a size 5.5 for them to give them room to grow, but I'm hoping they will stretch a bit with use and no need to up the size. If you are buying shoes for a child, buy shoes that are 2-2.5 sizes larger than your child's children's shoes and be prepared for a possible exchange for a larger size.
