I use it to host an internal DVD drive for my Apple Mac Mini with no drivers. I appreciate the USB3 speed and the quiet, fanless operation. What I really like is the blue LED display. It lights up when the device is switched on and flashes when data is being transferred. That's not the best part - it turns off when I put the car to sleep. For Mac or Linux operating systems, disconnecting the USB device will back up the computer. For example, if you hibernate the machine while the disk enclosure is powered on, you typically have to wake the machine up and power it down again. Not this disk - only the machine falls asleep and the LED goes out. Other manufacturers can learn something from this design. I can also leave the power on all the time instead of cycling it on and off to avoid the blue glow lighting up the room at night and I don't need black tape. DVD/CD recording was supported at full speed. No problem on OS X 10.10. A "wall wart" is necessary but doesn't take up much space - a single socket design on most power strips. It also comes with a USB3 cable, albeit a bit short.
