I was nervous after about 10 minutes of trying to use a razor blade, utility knife and heaps of effort to remove my 4 year old joint compound which was returned within a year despite a useless 40 year warranty was terribly cracked and moldy. I managed to cut part of the way, but I knew I didn't have an opportunity to complete this project in a reasonable amount of time. ok this works on a thick wide piece of caulk that was so new but fully cured. After about 15 minutes he removed the thin patches of sealant that I hadn't properly wiped off the tub and which turned into these blackish brown nauseous stains. After a few hours I was able to slide the blade of a painter's knife under the sealant to the rim of the tub (ceramic coated). (Note someone's complaint that this ruined their new fiberglass or other composite bathtub. I can't speak to that, but I wouldn't be surprised.) I started this Friday night and expect to still be there by Saturday night will try to remove most of the old sealant but it is now 5am and I expect most of the old sealant to be removed by noon. As my only shower if I put off this project for even the last 2 or 3 years. I would have done it sooner if I had known about this product. It remains quite a thick gel (be careful when you first open it, I got pressure from the warm summer air, it splattered a bit and I was glad it wasn't I see), smells surprisingly good for quite a while hard chemical composition, which I think should be. I haven't noticed any bad smells or annoying fumes so far, but I still ventilated the room well. Smudge fresh gel under the weakened edges leaving a nice thick layer on the surface - so far my plastic bathtub surround with a thin decorative film on the surface has not been damaged, although the razor blade has sheared off a bit on my previous attempts. Bottom line: I would not attempt any future sealant, new or old, without removing this material. Worth every penny. The best analogy that comes to mind at 5am is that on a sewing project I would start by making an intricate formal dress and this stuff turned it into sewing a button which took me countless hours and a lot swearing.
