Review on Teraflex 4940071 Tank Skid Plate by Chris Russell

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Sturdy but wrong size and CS was missing

This tank mount is solidly built and the powder coating was good. (I chose this particular sled because it was powder coated. Most other sleds are bare metal and I didn't want to add the time and effort of coating.) The fuel tank matched the sled perfectly. The sled itself didn't fit. I spent a couple of hours trying to install this slide before ripping it out again, pulling out the fuel tank and trying again without the tank. It became pretty obvious that the front and rear mounting holes were too far apart (difficult to see with the tank installed). There are deep adjustment slots that should have given over an inch of travel front to back, but instead required another 3/4 inch. There was no way the sled would fit in the set. I have tried contacting Teraflex directly for assistance but my questions have not been answered. If returning the sled wasn't a major issue causing my car to sit for weeks if another sled was purchased, delivered and powder coated I would be returning this Teraflex sled. Instead, I had to find a way to manipulate 3/16" thick steel and bend one of the sides to fit. I have a decent collection of tools, but this was a task that took a couple more hours and a trip to the hardware store .(Buy a large diameter steel tube to act as a pole. This did significant damage to the powder coating. After I was able to bend the small 2 hole side far enough, the skids snapped straight up. I'm disappointed with the quality assurance and the complete lack of customer service I received from Teraflex, a company whose products are otherwise well presented in My Jeep.
