Cannot be used with DVI to HDMI adapters

We bought this product to watch my phone on our TV as another one we have been using for several years broke . I liked the price but you can get 5 minutes or 5 seconds before it turns off and the TV goes blank. I tried everything to get a good connection but eventually we just stopped using it because it's very hard to deal with.
