Review on πŸ“¦ VANSUNY USB 3.1 Flash Drive 64GB - High Speed Solid State USB Drive for Fast Data Transfer - Green 64G USB Memory Stick with Zip Drive Functionality by Johnathan Delgado

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Update: Work better!

UPDATE: I originally said I was only getting half the rated speed from the drive. I couldn't figure out why writing to disk was faster than reading. I figured it might be enterprise software installed on my system, so I repeated CrystalDiskMark from my personal laptop (Ivy Bridge-era Thinkpad, Windows 10) and got much faster speeds on both reads and writes. I don't know if the tests are the same, but you can see a significant difference. It looks like the USB speed on my workstation is limited by the controller. I have updated my rating to 5 stars. First Review Received a 64GB flash drive today. It shows (on the 64GB version of the drive) that the read speed is 400MB/s. I get a maximum of 170MB/s. Strangely, I get a maximum write speed of 213 MB/s. It's the fastest flash drive for writing (not reading in general. It's faster for random reading) flash drive I have, but that's half the rated read speed. Oddly enough, writing is faster than reading. Does it use the built-in RAM buffer? My computer (a ThinkStation workstation running Windows 7) only supports USB 3.0 (so the theoretical top speed is 600 MB/s). I made sure it was plugged into the USB 3.0 port on the back of the device. I tested with an empty drive and then dropped about 10GB of files on it. With a 4GB archive and a 4GB folder with about 1200 files, the transfer speed was very fast (over 200MB/s). Considering I'm using this on a workstation that isn't connected to the internet for file transfers. I can live with questionable longevity. I need something fast that won't corrupt my data in about 20 minutes. But I'll stick to my familiar USB 3.0 drives for the data I like to carry around with me on a regular basis. It is too suspicious that the write speed is greater than the read speed and the read speed is less than half of what is declared.
