I made the mistake of confusing the Rocket 640L HBA (this product) with the RocketRAID 640L HBA, which is what I wanted. The screenprinted text on the front of the Rocket 640L says both, so no wonder I'm confused. But the maps are different. The Rocket 640L uses software provided by the chip manufacturer (Marvell) and does not have or need a Windows driver as it appears to be an AHCI compliant device. That's good if you want a plug-in-play solution, but bad if you want to manage your RAID arrays without a grossly inadequate BIOS. RocketRAID 640L uses the HighPoint software and driver and offers much better (and needed) functionality. I have several HighPoint RAID controllers and generally find them reliable and easy to use. Their software is far ahead of any chipmaker's software. Don't buy the Rocket 640L (they won't support it), go for the RocketRAID 640L unless you're using an OS other than Windows or MacOS.
