They work well for sanding wood or micarta which I use in knife handles. Well, just to digress a bit, I also put this in my grinder and bolt the pulley to my router table. I then use it as a drive wheel with a 30 inch sanding belt stretched between it and a pulley on the router table. Instant 30 inch horizontal belt sander. Probably not what the manufacturer had in mind when selling it, but it works so well I will never buy another cheap belt sander again.
