Otterbox: not as good, but still the best

I haven't reviewed all phone cases but if you're looking for a heavy duty strap look at case clips for the XCover Pro (and other popular phones) you probably won't find a better alternative than this Otterbox - although it doesn't quite live up to its old standards. Firstly, is it true without a screen? I've dropped my phone before and fallen from less than 3 feet, but it took an improbable hit to the screen, which my separately applied screen protector is barely protected against (the screen protector is damaged but the screen is not). . Yes, the XCover Pro has a small bezel around the screen, and a number of newer phones wrap their screens over the bezel to please the world's fashion idiots, but THIS case MAY have a built-in screen protector. , just like my previous phone's Otterbox. It would require more design and assembly work which they simply decided to put the boat on (while increasing the price). Second, look at the molding. On the old body: Made in USA. In this case: Made in China. Build quality is similar but not as good in my opinion. Third, check the handling. The new mount wraps tighter around the phone body from below, making it much more difficult to remove from the mount. The bottom hooks or fingers reach up too far and you have to juggle the phone to get it out. The old case was safe but without this annoying problem. The top clip is smaller (to compensate for the large bottom clips?), the clips have a noticeable 'click' that is absent in the old design, and I suspect it will prove less durable. The belt clip itself is very similar to the old one, so pretty good, but feels a little less stiff and a little less premium in the holding position. OK, just a little bit worse. Verdict: The new Otterbox is a poorer design, missing an important feature, and is now imported from a country known for uneven workmanship. Like everyone else, Otterbox has joined the race to the bottom, where everything is bigger, brighter, and worse in every way that matters. Luckily they haven't won that race yet, so the ones on offer are still the best. Buy this case, put a separate screen protector on the screen and get used to the uncomfortable handling. It's the best you can do.

Pros
  • Case included with belt clip that doubles as a stand for hands-free media viewing
Cons
