I was familiar with the world of the mandolin so I didn't know what to expect. Disclaimer: I received this product for free for testing purposes. I've used this twice and had little success, but I think it may be due to lack of experience. The thick julienne option resulted in smaller pieces than I would have preferred. I made sweet potato fries out of this and when it came out of the fryer it looked like french fries. I switched to the slice waffle option and it worked great with sweet potatoes. I used a potato chip cutter and it works fine until the bottom bin is full. This happened with every potato and it took me a while to figure out why I was getting such resistance. Here, too, I assume an operator error. The handguard is also a nice feature for those like me who are new to these devices and are a bit scared of the blade. I've seen too many cooking show bugs. When cleaning I found that I had to take out all the parts to make sure they were completely dry. That hurts a bit. Overall I like this mandolin and will continue testing it. Since I don't have a food processor or grater, this is a good option for both covering the floor and saving space.
