This is a handy search protection, it protects your electronics and extends not only to socket inputs, but also to USB and inputs. Many electronic devices no longer care about plug inputs, allowing you to get a lot more power and connect a lot more devices to a single device. I like that it has a socket type that doesn't protrude that much, it's handy behind furniture or in my case when I have a drawer that's against the wall and I can't open it otherwise. The piece itself has indentations on the back that allow you to mount it, in fact I've done this more often with sockets, it keeps them off the floor, dust off, and it keeps my robot vacuum from knocking anything off. The cord is long but also has velcro so it can be shortened if needed so I can meet all your needs in terms of increasing the distance between your plug and a real outlet. It has an on/off switch and you'll know it's on because you'll see a light just below the words 'grounded' and just above the words 'protect'.
