The switch is not waterproof and will fail after a short time outdoors.

I have installed several of these lights on our Outback RV. The lantern is mounted on the front of the trailer and appears to have been caught in a large amount of water running off the truck's wheels. They don't even last a full season. I just ordered another one but this time I ordered a waterproof switch which I have to drill and solder into the lantern. I also ordered a step drill for drilling over 1/2" holes. These jigs would be easy to install if you didn't have to remove the putty and then reseal every time they failed. I really like having lights on mine To have hitch so I'll try to figure out a way to extend them.I bought two switches for ten bucks so they could make them useful outdoors for like five bucks. If anyone knows of a decent switchable porch/auxiliary light , let me know because they don't cost fifty cents as built, I'm happy to pay more for a decent finish, I'll post instructions and details if the change works.
