After more than 3 uses I'm glad I bought it. These are my first cloth menstrual pads so I can't compare them to similar products but I'll talk about some of the issues I've had: Dyeing: So far I haven't had any issues with dyeing. Even when I tried tossing dirty pads straight into the trash after use without rinsing, soaking or pre-treating, there were no visible stains on them. Post-wash odors: When I simply tossed used pads into the basket of the no-rinse basket, I noticed that even though they looked clean, a lingering odor lingered after washing. It wasn't a strong odor, but the smell of rust, like iron, could definitely be detected by sniffing clean, dry pads. When I rinsed the pads clean and then shook them out and tossed them in a damp basket, I didn't smell a strong smell of rust, but I did smell a slight smell of mold. The method I finally found to get rid of the smell completely was to rinse the pad until it ran clear as soon as possible after use, then place it in a bucket of cold water with a little baking soda . I just hide the soaking bucket in the cupboard under the sink. When it's time to wash, I just drain the water, spin the pads and throw them in the regular wash. They come out clean and fresh, odorless. Odor During Use: Some reviews say they have less odor than disposable pads or no odor at all. I do not agree. I haven't noticed any difference. As with single-use products, I've found that their odor is also directly related to how often you change your pad. Luckily, since they're reusable, you can swap them out more often without feeling guilty or wasteful, as long as you have enough to last comfortably between washes. As someone who only does laundry once a week and prefers to keep it that way, I found the original five weren't enough, so I ordered a second set. Ten seems like a magic number to me. I can change them often enough to be sure of the smells without worrying about running out and not having to do extra laundry. Use on the go: I work from home so I don't have much experience using these on the go. The few times I've had, I've simply folded the used pad, put it in a wet bat in my purse, rinsed it out, and put it in the soaking bucket as soon as I got home. Leaks: I haven't had any leaks with them. As with disposables, I changed these regularly depending on the flow, but I've had no problems using them at night either. to get used to something. I found that wearing tighter underwear helped a lot. They came with a small bag of double-sided tape strips. I used the strips when I knew I was going to be very active, like before a power walk, and they really helped keep the pad in place. However, the strips cause annoyance and also partially rob that feeling of reusable use. I plan to only use them when I'm very active. Overall I am happy with them and will continue to use them every month. They are a great option for the vast majority of women. However, I don't think they will work for everyone. Someone living in a shared bathroom, such as a college dorm, may find it difficult to find a convenient, private area to hygienically rinse and soak their pads. I will continue to use disposables when I need to travel at night during my cycle.
