Previously using a car dock with an Android device, a very similar Mediabridge High Output Dual USB Car Charger worked fine. However, I don't have the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus car dock that I currently use, so the MediaBridge device only charges my phone at 0.5A (like a standard USB port). Android car docks often short two USB pins to signal the phone that 1A current can be used for fast charging. Without this change, the charger itself must short these pins. Otherwise, the phone behaves as if it were connected to a computer and only slow charging is possible (which is not enough when using GPS navigation, for example). So I switched from a MediaBridge charger to this very similar PowerGen charger. On the plus side, the PowerGen charger has a "NA" connector (not Apple) that makes the appropriate changes to signal the phone to take advantage of the fast charging speed. So my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus charges fast (and shows "Charging (AC)" in the battery status). My wife's iPhone 4s is charged via port "A" (Apple). When I try to use port "A" with my Galaxy Nexus, I can only charge slowly (and my phone shows "Charging (USB)" in the battery status). My wife's iPhone 4s also charges through the "NA" port (not Apple). So I'm a little confused as to why PowerGen didn't make both "NA" (non-Apple) ports capable of fast-charging two Android devices at the same time. The downside to this PowerGen device is that it doesn't fit well into the Toyota Scion xD 12V accessory port. If we smack the adapter slightly (which is easy on the Scion due to the accessory port's proximity to two cup holders), the PowerGen adapter often stops charging until we slide it deeper into the socket. We've never had this problem with a MediaBridge device, although they appear to be identical on the outside. So if you're fully Apple family, I recommend the Mediabridge High Output Dual USB Car Charger instead, as it's likely to be a better match for your device. additional vehicle connections.
