This ski and snowboard car rack from Menabo is a quick and easy way to transport your skis/boards to your favorite mountain. Easily attaches to most vehicles in under 10 minutes with straps and large magnetic bases that attach to each post which then attaches securely and magnetically to your vehicle. When I checked them out after taking them out of the box, I figured there was no way they would stick to the roof of my car, especially when I'm cruising at over 70mph on the Autobahn. I'm wondering how does this tape and magnet keep it from draining? Well I decided to test one of the racks and taped the magnetic base to the fridge door. I quickly realized how well these magnets would stick to the roof of a car. I literally couldn't get the ski rack off the fridge door! He acted like his life depended on it and I put all my 197 pounds on him and tried to throw him out the door. When my wife walked into the kitchen and saw me dangling off the counter and struggling to get it off, she calmly asked me what the hell I was doing (I didn't mention to her that I was going to try her basic brand newer LG Side-by-Side WiFi Fridge with TV) and I explained that I'm testing the strength of the ski rack's magnetic feet because I didn't want their boar flying off the roof on the way up the mountain. She then calmly asked me why I didn't do it in the garage with my toolboxes or in my truck. I said I don't really know why but the fridge was right there while I was still trying my best to poke it out of the fridge while looking like I wasn't trying at all. Then, while I'm kinda holding on to this thing, it comes up and rips the tab on the counter and I keep falling face down and the ski rack lands on top of me and kicks out the fridge door. They have a tab that you use to break the seal and if you pull on them a little bit the seal will break and they are easy to remove. I'm really glad she decided to help me but really made me look like an idiot in front of my two friends. They quickly assured me that she hadn't fooled me at all and that I had done it all on my own without her help. Either way, it's your main ski rack with a locking key that allows you to secure the skis or snowboards you're carrying. This would be a good ski case for a trip to a local ski area or a day trip to the mountains or somewhere for the night if you can take your gear with you at night. These racks are almost entirely plastic and I don't know if I would leave expensive skis or snowboards strapped to this rack overnight. I have a feeling a skilled thief could open them up fairly easily and take your gear in their car in seconds. But hey, I could be wrong, I didn't go to our local Motel 6, left my skis in the rack overnight and hoped I had at least a 50/50 chance my stuff would still be there in the morning. My assumption about the lock is based on the fact that apart from a few details, this frame is somehow wobbly and completely made of plastic. I understand that just because it's primarily plastic doesn't mean it can't do the job it's intended for or keep your gear safe and off the car. When I first saw them I loved the look and how easy they were to attach to your car and figured at $159.99 (at the time of this review) they should be strong enough to wear at one of our local ski resorts (less than 10 miles drive to my doorstep) or north to Taos, New Mexico or the area where many New Mexico ski areas are located, approximately 8 hours round trip. But I wasn't so convinced when they arrived, so I started looking through them. Not to mention the fridge incident, they did a great job on a ski and snowboard gear trip to El Paso (5 hours round trip) to get a quote on my used gear for the new gear they sell . I live right next to a ski resort, there are several ski rental and sales shops in town. Unfortunately, the best deals are always in the big cities, so we took my things, hung them on a hanger and off we went. The porters held tight, and it wasn't until we got to El Paso that I had to tighten the straps a bit. I made a deal for two boards, fixed them to the counter and headed home for the second half of our 5 hour trip. Racks have survived everything back and forth without any problems. So that they can keep your gear safe on a long trip I don't see any problems at all. If I leave something locked in there for any length of time and stay out of sight for the same amount of time I'd worry I'd still have a roof on my return, but she might be bare. . Apart from the attachment on the roof with magnetic feet, there are only straps that can be easily cut through with a sharp knife in fractions of a second. And even if a thief is seen using my technique to help himself (we have equal opportunities here for thieves of both sexes), few people will stop in his path and come close to being robbed, and I would stop by no blame them for not doing it. It's just the world we live in today. For the asking price of $160, you get a basic ski rack set that can carry up to 3 pairs of skis or two snowboards. Tested to a top speed of 80 mph without starting. If you're over 80, you could be in for a terrible day depending on where your gear wants to take off and, more importantly, where your gear wants to land. If you need ski bindings this is a decent set and will get the job done.
