Review on FS-24 Steel Professional Framing Square Review & Features: 24"x16" Length Square for Accurate Measurements by William Gildea

Very unusual - measuring and marking tools

Nice looking and strong, either covered with varnish or some other transparent coating. I knew the embossed measurement scale would be difficult to read in certain lighting conditions, so that wasn't a problem. However, the angle of the square was noticeable and affected the perpendicularity of the instrument. The coating was so rough it was impossible to draw a good thin straight line with it. Overall, I've been using Starrett tools for more years than I can remember and still own micrometers (internal and external) and adjustable squares with rulers over 24 inches. I love Starrett but I understand this is the lowest tier of their tools and I suspected some non-standard issues but not too bad. I would like an external caliper to measure the hypotenuse accurately as I have no other reference. The thickness of the 24" side ranged from 2.000 to 2.020 and that of the 16" side was from 1.504" to 1.514", these measurements were made using MITUTOYO 500-196-30. I will continue to buy Starrett instruments in the future. I prefer to stick with higher quality devices. take a look. My woodpecker is .002 in 26 inches back which is great for what I do. I was hoping for something compatible without the woodpecker price tag. The delivery was excellent and although there was no packaging on the square it arrived intact. I made a final comment or I'll send it back to the post office tomorrow morning. I think it was brave of Starrett to try to make the inexpensive tool everyone is looking for but a little bit more specific.
