Vinyl has a similar influence, and now with the resurgence of cassettes driving retro music, small players reminiscent of portable music players fill a good gap in that sentiment to restore. The build quality of this player is surprisingly above average. There isn't much of a difference in the belt mechanism (since all players today get their mechanisms from the latest permanent source). The design and feel are also above average for the price. The radio setup is good and the speaker matches the price. For a portable player with these features - speakers, recording and radio - you get very good value for money in a solid package. All in all it's a great and inexpensive way to go retro at the beach, on your desktop with a mixtape or (in our case) make a mixtape for our very young son to play and enjoy his favorite music with one device in his hands (in a way an alternative to "My First Sony" where the iPad cannot fully reproduce it). EDIT 01/21/2020: After a month the device slowly started to play. New batteries solved the problem somewhat. Then, after a few more weeks, the device just couldn't "pull" the cassette and played it very slowly. Unfortunately we had to go back. When the block worked, it worked well and enjoyed its design. Unfortunately it didn't last.
