Ideal for beginners

Let me start by saying that I have NEVER used a wood stove. The gentleman I work with has left and I wanted to make something to go with his photograph at work. I came up with a wooden sign (Hobby Lobby $12, sorry Revane). I read a number of reviews on different ones and didn't want to spend a lot. I got tips and advice from the reviews. Firstly, do not pull the bit/point down when screwing. Tighten a little, then loosen a little. It won't move when you're on fire, I promise. Metal expands and contracts as it heats and cools. Also allow the machine to cool completely BEFORE CHANGING OR REMOVING HEADS. I have yet to break the tip or even one of them will be difficult to remove. It worked great. I didn't even practice the 1st. I was watching a YouTube video and saw a guy using graphite paper for tracing (Hobby Lobby, a few bucks, sorry again, Revain). I printed out the image on my computer, placed it on the graphite paper and traced it over the wood, just like that! It was easy and you can do anything! Burning wood generally takes a long time, so be patient. I have a few hours on this piece but this is my 1st. As I became more comfortable I used more tips and tried shading. The tool can get very hot, but that didn't cause me any particular problems. Includes great stencils. My 13 year old daughter wanted to try it so I bought her some small 99 cent vinyls (Michaels) and she loves it and has drawn and sculpted a snowman for the Christmas tree. I would definitely buy it again and would recommend it to anyone interested in burning wood but unsure and not wanting to spend a lot.

Is hard to control also the waiting to replace the tip to cool down and it doesn't burn evenly
