Don't be fooled. It's not 9 cubes that can be used to create any configuration. Due to the limited number of "multidirectional" internal connecting rods (7 it seems) and external rods (10?), there are a limited number of configurations that will work. Before you get started with connecting rods, be aware of whether you are using internal or external connections. I ended up with a 2x2 configuration for the bottom of my closet as well as a 2x1 configuration for the shelf, with leftovers that I ended up throwing away. This suited my needs, so it worked well for me. But despite the fact that I had 6 cubes, I wouldn't have enough pieces to complete three more cubes. You don't need the silly little mallet that comes with the kit to assemble these cubes. This can be done manually. Insert the sticks firmly, but don't apply force to them (you may twist them). It's a very soft metal that bends. Also, it's not fabric. The dividers are more like plastic nylon.
