Easy adjustable cushioning/cushioning. I wanted to build my own but the price of this little stereo mute was cheaper and time-saver. Build quality is a lot cheaper than I expected, but for $7 with delivery to my door I can't complain. I use this to reduce the input from my retro gaming consoles to my studio monitors so I'm not too concerned about reliability. If you're going to use it in a car, which is what it was originally intended for, I'd prefer something more durable. The case is made of very cheap plastic and is held together by the friction of the RCA cables coming out of the back of the case through a rubber grommet. I would say that the stroke of the handle is pretty smooth.
