We have had this can opener for several years, so we have a lot of experience with it from small to large cans. Sometimes he opens the lid of a medium-sized jar. The usual result is that it quickly slips off the lid, bruising your fingers. The metal hooks on the bottom of the Rikon just aren't strong enough, or perhaps not positioned correctly, to open most can lids. Often the "wheel" at the top of the unit must be held with a finger and the wheel stressed by trying to unscrew the lid. This is quite a difficult task and also a bit dangerous. Sometimes a second person is needed to hold tension on the top thumbwheel while another person tries to unscrew the cap. Most of the time, we just run warm water over the lid, tap lightly with a plastic mallet, and unscrew the lid with our bare hands. In other cases, a regular strap wrench (one you can buy at a hardware store) will do. This Kuhn Rikon looks great in a kitchen drawer but doesn't do well for opening glass lids.
