I bought this for my 55 inch TCL Roku TV. This TV has a USB 2.0 port that allows me to connect an external hard drive. TV Media Player reads .mkv video files. and .mp4 (x264/x265). I've found that the TV doesn't always recognize the hard drive when it's a USB 3.0 drive. This is completely random and there is no way to tell if the hard drive will work right away by plugging it into the TV. This expansion takes that guesswork out. If you add this to your TV and then connect an external USB 3.0 drive to this extension, the TV will recognize the drive every time. I currently have a Seagate 8TB external hard drive. a hard drive that was not recognized but the tv recognized my old seagate 2tb hard drive. I bought this extension because I read that it solves the detection problem and it does.
