I use it in my studio to improve the air conditioning. If you heat a cup of water in the microwave, the apartment will get hot. In the worst of summer, my air conditioner has to be on all the time. To save money on my utility bills, I use a fan to increase the air conditioner's output when I'm blowing cold air. Most of the night and early morning I can keep the air conditioning on a moderate temperature (say 75°F) and the fan on low. At noon I have to set the air conditioning to a lower temperature (about 20 °C) and the fan to medium. When I cook, the fan runs at full blast and I leave the air conditioning alone. The fan is loud at the highest level. I have noise canceling headphones that I wear when the fan is very loud. However, at low speed, it is no worse than a white noise machine. In fact, I even like to wear it in the winter to crank up my heating and create soothing white noise.
