Review on 🌐 Gowoops GPS Module with TTL Ceramic Passive Antenna: Ideal for Arduino Raspberry Pi 2 3 B+ MCU by Bill Sorenson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Highly recommended, would buy again

Installed in a handheld scanner (Uniden BCD436HP) that uses GPS and an internal frequency database with geotags to know which local frequencies to scan. The output is TTL, so I also had to buy a TTL RS-232 converter module (UPGRADE INDUSTRIES - [1x] MAX232 RS-232 MAX3232 to 3.3V 5.0V TTL Serial UART Voltage Converter Module from UPGRADE INDUSTRIES). The attached photos show how the modules were connected together and installed in the scanner body. When first turned on, it took about 7 minutes to sync to the satellite. But all subsequent power-ups are corrected in 30-40 seconds, so the ephemeris backup battery seems to be working fine. Even in basements and in the back seats of cars and other non-optimal reception areas, the device has no problems receiving and maintaining satellite synchronization. Having an internal GPS in the scanner is much more convenient than the manufacturer's external GPS solution which has 3 separate cables that need to be properly connected together and a separate power supply. The unit I received has patch antenna cutouts to optimize impedance. Antenna compliance and performance. Someone took the time to set up the antenna and its performance shows. 5 stars, highly recommended, will buy again.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Lots of things
