I bought this to strain the yogurt I make in the Instant Pot. I put it in a colander that can be put back into the inner pot and leave it in the pot with the lid on in the fridge overnight. In the past I've used coffee filters, cheesecloth, or even a nut milk carton, all of which are dirtier or, in the case of coffee filters, have much less capacity. This piece works like a dream and is easy to clean. I've also used it for draining and squeezing moisture out of cucumbers for tzatziki and it worked great and cleaned better than a kitchen towel.
