Had to drill a new vent hole

I bought this to replace a cap I've had for probably 8 years. It started leaking. When the new case arrived I replaced the old one with the new one. I use my Tervis all the time. I noticed as soon as I drank that no water came out of the hole. At first I thought the ice was the culprit in blocking the hole. I tried water without ice and the same situation happened(?). That was not the case with the old shell. I took a closer look at the new lid and noticed that the "breathing hole" was right where my nose touched the lid. When I wanted to drink, my nose would block the hole and prevent the pressure inside the tervis from equalizing (creating a vacuum). ). I don't have a big nose either! After this discovery, I made a conscious effort NOT to put my nose in the cap while drinking. It didn't always work. I took a sip and instinctively stuck my nose into the cap and then I noticed that the flow was blocked and moved my nose and then I received an instant flow of water from the hole. Luckily I only drink ice water most of the time because the sudden pressure equalization could hit my face and sometimes my shirt. The "breathing hole" of the old lid was above the lid, so no problem. I really like the new lid because it has a much stronger seal on my Tervis than the previous lid and the closing "flap" feels a bit thicker. Maybe my facial anatomy is just an accident. I solved the problem by simply drilling a small hole in the lid a little higher up so the nose didn't get in the way. I have attached photos. Works great now! No more wet face and shirt. Overall, this is a VERY good cover that will stay with me for a long time.
