As owners of 4 clawless cats, my wife and I have to be careful about what furniture we bring into the house. This item is great for protecting fabric upholstered items - now they don't even try to scratch the sofa I think because the smooth surface feels weird on their paws. It's actually an expensive, thick piece of clear plastic and a little twisted. pins to hold it in place. I'm sure the seller is making money off of this item, but the convenience of having it cut to size and ready to use makes it worth it. You can go to a hardware store, buy some plastic and make it yourself, but it's a lot easier to have it ready-made in a bag. A great item, well worth a bit of a price tag for a piece of plastic.
