If I just "tighten" it, it takes a couple of weeks before I have to redo the fit (i.e. cut the torn piece of strap and reattach it, losing about 1/3 inch each time. 6 months) I ran out of extra after purchasing the strap a strap that needs to be cut off and i constantly worry about when it will let go. For the record, I'm 6ft 0.240lbs tall, but not huge. I think if they use real leather instead of the cheaper reformulated material it will hold up fine, or moving the "prongs" of the clip further away from the end of the leather might also work. I'm too late to return them, but I would definitely do so if that was an option.
