This is MUCH better than any of the many other humidifiers I've tried. Why? 1. He is calm and not unattractive. I don't mind having it in the living room.2. It doesn't use filters. Filters are expensive, dirty and full of germs. And then don't forget to order them, but they are not available.3. It is easy to use, clean and maintain. Easy to fill without worrying about spills. Follow the instructions for a light cleaning (with change of water conditioner) every 2 weeks. Intensive cleaning with cleaning solution once a season. All of this is disassembled to make all surfaces accessible for wiping.4. quality production. It's well designed and well made. Easy cleaning is one of the advantages. Parts can be replaced if necessary. This is not a one-time item.5. Customer service. I had a very small problem with one of the three of them. Support didn't bother to discuss whether my problem was too minor to handle or if I could fix it: they just said the problem could get worse, so they preferred to send me a replacement motor. Installation was trivial. Again, it demonstrates the value of building something the old-fashioned way, i.e. built to be serviced and stored for years, rather than being used for a season or two and then tossed in the heap. While it's expensive, I suspect it will be cheaper within 2-3 years due to the lack of filters and the likelihood of this thing lasting many years. I'm just packing mine after season one, but I expect they'll last me for years to come. It seems odd to get excited about a humidifier, but it's the kind of purchase that goes beyond what seems reasonable because everything just gets done right for a change.
