Easy to use but gets musty

I bought two of these in 2019. Within a year I dropped one which caused the top to lose its spring and cost it the spring action. After using another one for about a year (at work, at the gym, at home) I'm buying another water bottle due to mold or fungus growing along the top of the spout and around the silicone ring. above. To be honest I've never had to take anything apart to clean it; I would not remove this silicone ring for fear of not being able to put it back in. And until recently I didn't have a dishwasher. But even if you put a water bottle in the dishwasher (top shelf only), mold or mildew will remain and the bottle will smell musty. I enjoyed using the bottle thanks to the spring cap and carry handle. I like the thin and simple design; It fits easily in a backpack's bottle pocket and drink holder and doesn't look out of place at my work. But after an incident where water spilled all over the back seat of my car, I didn't leave a water bottle in my backpack or bag. Anything that touches the button on top can open the lid - like a textbook in a backpack propped against a bottle in an outside pocket. Buying a bottle of water and using it for a year is much better for the environment than buying water. a bottle a day, so if I had no other choice I'd settle for buying one more. But if I have mold problems, I'll try another brand and design. FYI, this Contigo doesn't say it's recyclable.
